What can you do on your iPad through the FHU Library?

What are Ebsco eBooks?

Ebsco eBooks is a collection of books that you can read on your computer or mobile device. The FHU Library has access to several thousand Ebsco eBooks that you can read, search in, and - in some cases - download.

Should I download an eBook or just read it online?

This is entirely your choice - with Ebsco you can download the whole book or you can read it right there in the Ebsco database.
Pros/Cons of reading it in Ebsco
• Pro: It's quicker and simpler. Just click on the full text link for an eBook and you've opened it.
• Pro: It's good for figuring out if a book is what you want. You might want to read a bit in the browser before deciding whether to download it.
• Con: If you're going to be going back to the eBook over the space of several days, it might be annoying to have to keep finding it over and over again in Ebsco.
• Con: You have to be online when you read it.
Pros/Cons of downloading it
• Pro: Use it offline! Once you download it, it's saved on your computer/device
• Pro: Using it in a reader is a nicer experience than using it in the database
• Con: It's more complicated initially. You do have to load some software to enable offline reading. Plus you have to sign up for some accounts first and who needs more passwords to remember?
It's up to you to decide which way to read an Ebsco eBook, though this LibGuide mainly just deals with downloading. Here are the basic steps we'll go over:
Step 1 Creating accounts and getting software
Step 2 Finding an Ebsco eBook
Step 3 Downloading the eBook
